Threaded Brass Inserts for Plastic Assemblies

Brass Inserts

Threaded brass inserts — installed into plastic housings to create a permanent metal thread in thermoplastic or thermoset substrates. Covers ultrasonic-weld, heat-set, press-fit / mold-in, and self-tapping configurations across C3604 and C3600-series brass grades.

Core Way Fast production category with active volume across electronic housings, consumer-product enclosures, automotive interior components, and appliance assemblies. Inserts, standoffs, spacers, and brass connector bodies supplied from free-cutting C3604 or low-lead C3600 grades per programme requirement.

Why source through Way Fast

We serve Tier 1 and Tier 2 automotive suppliers — primarily to North American OEM programs, including platforms shared with European and Japanese brands — with day-to-day experience handling the documentation and tolerance standards these projects demand.

01 · Multi-source capacity
Working with multiple qualified manufacturing partners — we match each order to the best-fit production line, stabilizing lead times and cost when single-source capacity tightens.
02 · Submission-grade documentation
Full support for PPAP (Levels 1–3), IMDS submission, and RoHS / REACH documentation.
03 · Audited special-process chain
Partners certified to AIAG CQI-9 (heat treat), CQI-11 (plating), and CQI-12 (coating) — covering the full post-processing chain under audited special-process controls.
04 · Multilingual drawing review
Technical drawing review in English, German, Japanese, and Chinese — including ISO 8015 GPS callouts, JIS standards, thread tolerance classes, and coating specifications.
05 · Insert type and substrate matching
Installation method (ultrasonic, heat-set, mold-in, or self-tapping), body profile (knurled, grooved, shouldered), thread spec, and brass grade (C3604 standard vs C3600 low-lead for environmental compliance) matched per substrate plastic and installation tooling — drawing-reviewed against customer mould, insertion equipment, and performance requirement.

Selecting across brass insert configurations

Ultrasonic / Heat-Set Inserts
Plastic housing assembly · post-mold install
Installed into a pre-molded hole by ultrasonic welding or heat-set press. Most common brass insert for thermoplastic housings — electronic enclosures, consumer products, appliances. Knurled OD for anti-rotation and pull-out resistance.
Mold-in (Press-fit) Inserts
Pre-positioned during injection
Placed in the mold cavity before injection — plastic flows around the insert during molding. Used where insertion equipment is not available or maximum pull-out / torque retention is required. Suitable for higher-volume mold-in programmes.
Self-Tapping Brass Inserts
Thread-forming into plastic
External knurled or threaded body — installed by screwing into a pre-molded hole, forming threads in the substrate. Used for field-serviceable joints or when dedicated ultrasonic / heat-set equipment is not available.
Brass Connectors / Standoffs
Connector bodies · spacers · PCB supports
Brass threaded standoffs (spacers), PCB support pillars, and threaded connector bodies for electronic and consumer-product assembly. Supplied per drawing with configurable thread sizes and lengths.
