External Threaded Fasteners

Clinch Studs

Clinch Stud Fasteners for Non-Weldable Sheet Metal

Clinch Studs

Clinch studs lock into sheet metal without welding — displacement-collar geometry forces material into the retaining groove; retaining ring prevents push-out; rib profile resists rotation.

Supplied via two paths depending on programme documentation requirements: Acument® Strux® with licensed baseline validation documentation, or qualified-partner generic equivalents for cost-sensitive programmes. Applications: body panels, chassis brackets, pre-coated sheets, dissimilar material joints, in-die installation.

Why source through Way Fast

We serve Tier 1 and Tier 2 automotive suppliers — primarily to North American OEM programs, including platforms shared with European and Japanese brands — with day-to-day experience handling the documentation and tolerance standards these projects demand.

Anti-rotation · exposed teeth
Teeth on the outer rim provide maximum grip against the mating surface and the largest torsional resistance. Selected where loosening under vibration is the primary concern and the joint tolerates visible tooth marks.
Internal Tooth
Concealed teeth · clean surface
Teeth face inward — used where tooth marks must be hidden (visible assemblies, painted panels). Requires tight mating-hole diameter to prevent tooth miss-engagement.
Split Lock (Helical Spring)
High-vibration · spring tension
Split-ring geometry provides spring tension against the joint. Selected where the assembly sees continuous low-amplitude vibration. Paired with carbon or hardened spring-steel washers.

Tapping Screws

Self-Tapping and Thread-Forming Screws for Sheet Metal, Plastic, and Cast Materials

Tapping Screws

Self-tapping and thread-forming screws — form their own internal thread in sheet metal, plastic, die-cast, or soft alloy substrates without pre-tapping or a separate nut.

Full type range across ASME B18.6.4 and DIN 7970 / 7971 / 7972 / 7983 — Type A, AB, B, BT, BP, F, 25, and custom geometries supplied per customer drawing. Applications across automotive interior panels, HVAC ducts, appliance housings, electronic enclosures, and furniture metal frames.

Why source through Way Fast

We serve Tier 1 and Tier 2 automotive suppliers — primarily to North American OEM programs, including platforms shared with European and Japanese brands — with day-to-day experience handling the documentation and tolerance standards these projects demand.

01 · Multi-source capacity
Working with multiple qualified manufacturing partners — we match each order to the best-fit production line, stabilizing lead times and cost when single-source capacity tightens.
02 · Submission-grade documentation
Full support for PPAP (Levels 1–3), IMDS submission, and RoHS / REACH documentation.
03 · Audited special-process chain
Partners certified to AIAG CQI-9 (heat treat), CQI-11 (plating), and CQI-12 (coating) — covering the full post-processing chain under audited special-process controls.
04 · Multilingual drawing review
Technical drawing review in English, German, Japanese, and Chinese — including ISO 8015 GPS callouts, JIS standards, thread tolerance classes, and coating specifications.
05 · Screw type and substrate matching
Screw type (A / AB / B / F / 25 / BT / BP), point style, thread pitch, and material grade matched to substrate (mild steel sheet thickness, galvanized, aluminum, plastic, ductile vs brittle) — drawing-reviewed against customer joint specification. Contact with full scope (drawing, substrate spec, and target annual volume) for programme-level quotation.
Family coverage · 3 types

Common tapping screw types in production

Type A / AB
Sheet metal · sharp point
Widely-spaced threads with gimlet (sharp) point. Type A for thin sheet metal and non-ferrous materials. Type AB for slightly thicker gauges or where tighter thread engagement is preferred. Standard choice for HVAC, appliance housings, and light-gauge automotive panels.
Type B
Sheet metal · blunt point
Blunter point than Type A, with machine-screw-style thread profile. Selected for thicker sheet metal, non-ferrous castings, and applications where the blunt point prevents thread damage to the opposite face.
Type 25 / F
Hardened substrates · thread-cutting
Thread-cutting (not forming) with a machine-screw body. Used in brittle or hardened substrates (cast iron, zinc die-cast, hard plastic) where thread-forming would crack the host material. Cuts chips during installation.

Weld Studs

Weld Studs for Documented Automotive Applications

Weld Studs

Stud-welded fasteners — fused to base metal via arc or capacitor-discharge welding. No pre-drilled holes, no back-nut access required; installation by automated stud-welding robot or handheld gun.

Available for documented automotive applications requiring full PPAP / IMDS compliance and audited heat-treat / plating (CQI-9 / CQI-11) — body panel grounding, chassis structural brackets, exhaust mounting, interior trim. Standards: ISO 13918, GM 6076M, Ford WSS-M1P87, or AWS D1.1 / D1.3 per customer specification.
